Senior Scam Using AAAWM Name for PERS Service

8/4/2015 3:30pm

We have recently been informed that a company is calling older adults and claiming that Area Agency on Aging is paying in full for Personal Emergency Response devices (commonly called “call-buttons”). The automated call encourages people to “press 1 to verify their address.”

AAAWM encourages anyone who receives the call to hang up and to NOT give the caller any information.

We have contacted all of the companies we currently use to provide Personal Emergency Response Services (PERS) and they have stated they are NOT behind these calls.

If you, or someone you know is in need of a PERS, please contact us and we can provide you with the name of the agencies we have funding relationship with.

Again, we encourage people to NOT provide any personal information and to hang up the phone.

The Proposal Review Committee (PRC)  will disperse more than $5 million in funding for FY 2016 (which starts October 1, 2015) throughout our nine county region. You need more exercise-related classes offered at a time. The only class ever offered in Mason Co. it seems is the one on balance. While that is a valuable class, what about disabled people who would like to use their non-disabled parts of their bodies to increase their health in easy exercises? Now that spring is here I can finally get outside, but I need someone who can help me when I fall, so I'm stuck inside even in good weather.

CARF Coming Soon

5/18/2015 8:55am

A survey team from CARF International* will be visiting the AAAWM office June 15-17, 2015. We invited the surveyors to evaluate how well we meet international standards for quality. The survey will tell us what we are doing well and ways we might improve. As a result of this survey, we may earn or continue accreditation.

As part of the survey, the surveyors will interview people who receive services, their families, our staff, and others.

Some questions the survey team members might ask people are:

  • Do we provide a clean and safe setting?
  • Do you receive the services you need and want?
  • Are you treated with respect?
  • Do you take part in planning your services?
  • Are you told what you need to know about your services?
  • Are your questions answered in a way you understand?
  • Do you know where to go with questions or concerns?

If you would like to talk with one of the survey team members or want to learn more about CARF International, please let one of our staff members know. You may also contact CARF International directly.

*CARF International is an independent,  not-for-profit family of organizations  (including CARF, CARF Canada, and CARF-CCAC) that provides accreditation  in the field of human services.
