Updated LGBTQIA+ Senior Resource Guide

The Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan is dedicated to serving older adults and caregivers across our region with respect and care. Our programs are designed to meet the varied needs of our diverse community, ensuring that everyone has access to the resources and support they need to age with dignity and independence.
As part of this ongoing commitment, we’ve released an updated version of our LGBTQ+ Resource Guide. First created in 2018, the guide connects LGBTQIA+ older adults and their caregivers to services that are safe, affirming, and accessible. The 2025 update expands information on housing, in-home support, healthcare, nutrition, caregiver support, and opportunities for community connection. The need is significant—seven out of ten LGBTQIA+ older adults live alone, compared to three out of ten heterosexual older adults. Access to resources like those provided helps reduce isolation and makes aging in place possible for more people.
We know aging looks different for everyone. By continuing to strengthen and expand tools like this resource guide, we build on our past work and ensure that individuals from all communities feel valued and supported. Together with our partners, we remain committed to removing barriers, fostering connection, and helping older adults age well in their homes and communities.
