Daytime care for functionally impaired elderly persons provided through a structured program of social and rehabilitative services.

Bathing and Personal Care services are sometimes provided-inquiry at individual organizations.

Programs intended to provide assistance to caregivers in understanding and coping with a broad range of issues associated with caregiving.  Examples are education programs on the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of caregiving as well as current research and public policy concerns. Support activities for caregivers including support groups, counselling and connection with community resources. Also training programs pertaining to techniques for providing personal care services to care recipients.

Services needed to maintain the home in a clean, sanitary, and safe environment.  This service includes heavy household chores such as washing floors, windows and walls, tacking down loose rugs and tiles, moving heavy items of furniture in order to provide safe access and egress inside the home.  This service also includes yard maintenance (mowing, raking, and clearing hazardous debris such as fallen branches and trees) and snow plowing to provide safe access and egress outside of the home.

Nutritious meals served in various locations. Lunch is often coordinated with a variety of activities such as exercise programs, cards, crafts, bingo, games, health screenings and nutrition education.

Professional level counseling services seek to improve the individual’s emotional and social well-being through the resolution of personal problems and/or change in an individual’s social situation. 

Durable medical equipment and supplies include devices, controls, or appliances that enable individuals to increase their abilities to perform activities of daily living, or to perceive, control, or communicate with the environment in which they live. 

Programs for the prevention and treatment of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Presentations are made to aging subcontract organizations, professional and paraprofessional groups through community outreach and  public education.  Case consultation with other local agencies such as Adult Protective Services, Department of Human Services, law enforcement, health care professionals, and community mental health.

Programs designed to be an effective tool in improving the health of older adults.  Programs offered may include:  A Matter of Balance, EnhanceFitness, Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program, and PATH.

Home delivered meals service is the provision of at least one nutritionally sound meal per day to persons who are dependent, aged, or physically disabled and unable to care for their nutritional needs.  The unit of service is one meal delivered to the client's home that provides a minimum of one-third of the current recommended dietary allowance for the age group as established by the Food and Nutritional Board of the National Research Counsel of the National Academy of Sciences. 

Services consisting of general household activities (meal preparation and routine household care) provided by a trained homemaker, when the individual regularly responsible for these activities is temporarily absent or unable to manage the home and care for him or herself or others in the home.  Homemakers shall meet such standards of education and training as established by the State for the provision of these activities.

Provision of legal advice, counseling, and representation by an attorney to low-income older adults.

Assists residents and prospective residents of long-term care facilities in understanding their rights and resolving complaints to improve care.

Personal Care includes assistance with eating, bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, and activities of daily living.  This service may include assistance with preparation of meals, but does not include the cost of the meals themselves.  When specified in the plan of care, this service may also include such housekeeping chores as bed making, dusting and vacuuming, which are incidental to the care furnished, or which are essential to the health and welfare of the individual, rather than the individual's family.  This service also includes supervising the care of the client by reminding, prompting, cuing, and frequently directing the activities of daily living.  Personal care service providers must meet State standards for this service. 

Individual and continuous care (in contrast to part time or intermittent care) provided by a LPN within the scope of State law.  These services are provided to an individual at home.

Services provided to individuals unable to care for themselves; furnished on a short-term basis because of the absence or need for relief of those persons normally providing the care.
