SENIORS BENEFIT FROM FEDERAL PHONE CREDIT

Federal tax refunds must be filled to receive credit

A one-time long distance phone credit could mean extra revenue for seniors, many who don’t typically file federal tax returns.

The one page form can be completed without filling a full federal return.

“The long-distance telephone tax credit from the IRS could be beneficial to older adults,” says Tom Czerwinski, Executive Director of the Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan. “Many seniors are living on fixed incomes, so any additional revenue is helpful.”

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) refund amount is $30 for a single person and $40 for a two person household. The forms are available through www.irs.gov and many local libraries and post offices.
