HAVE MEDICARE QUESTIONS? CATCH THE BUS

November 28,  2006

GRAND RAPIDS- Anyone with Medicare questions can attend an event for information, counseling or enrollment when the Medicare bus comes to Grand Rapids. The Medicare bus will be stopping at Covenant Village of the Great Lakes (2510 Lake Michigan Drive NW) on Thursday November 30 to help Medicare beneficiaries or their families enroll in Medicare Part D and answer questions about plan options.

The event, which runs from 11:00 to 3:00, will include an explanation on the 2007 changes in Medicare Part D from Jo Murphy, Program Development Coordinator at the Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan (AAAWM).

Staff from AAAWM and Medicare will be on-hand to provide beneficiaries with personal assistance and access to online enrollment.  Attendees need to bring their Medicare card and a list of current prescriptions, including dosages and costs, so counselors can assist them with choosing the plan that best fits their needs.

“We are receiving a lot of Medicare calls, so we ask individuals to be patient as we return calls and set up appointments,” says Jo Murphy of AAAWM. “Attending the Medicare bus event on November 30 will allow people with Medicare to receive attention that day as additional counselors will be available to assist.”

Individuals can sign up for a Medicare prescription drug plan until December 31st, but are encouraged to make their decision earlier.  More information can be found at www.medicare.gov or by calling 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).
