Older Americans Act Proposals Released

The Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan (AAAWM) is seeking proposals to provide contracted services funded under the Older Americans Act in Region 8.  This is a separate funding stream that provides services to clients who may not be receiving services through the MI Choice Waiver or Care Management program.

Region 8 includes the nine counties of Allegan, Ionia, Kent, Lake, Mason, Mecosta, Montcalm, Newaygo and Osceola. This proposal process is for three years, Fiscal Years 2017- 2019. The funding awarded will be for the first year of the three year proposal, Fiscal Year 2017 (October 1, 2016 through September 30, 2017).

The defined services that could be funded in this proposal process are:

  • Adult Day Services
  • Caregiver Focal Point
  • Caregiver Education, Support and Training
  • Congregate Meals
  • Counseling
  • Disease Prevention/Health Promotion
  • Elder Abuse Prevention Education
  • Grandparent Education, Support and Training
  • Home Delivered Meals
  • Homemaker (outside Kent Co.)
  • Legal Assistance
  • Long Term Care Ombudsman
  • Nutrition Education
  • Outreach and Assistance
  • Respite (outside Kent Co.)
  • Senior Center Staffing
  • Transportation – Assisted and Public

Important Dates:

  • April 13, 2016 - 1:00 p.m. Proposal Workshop at the Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan located at 3215 Eaglecrest Drive NE, Grand Rapids, Michigan. 
  • May 2, 2016 - 12:00 p.m.  Proposals Due at the AAAWM office, 3215 Eaglecrest Drive NE, Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Older Americans Act Proposal Process Begins March 24, 2016

The next open Older Americans Act (OAA) proposal process begins with the release of the FY 2017-2019 OAA proposal on March 24, 2016.  Any agency interested in submitting a proposal for funding can contact Anne Ellermets, Director of Contract Services & Program Development at anne@aaawm.org before March 24, 2016.  Any agency interested in being placed on the proposer list can send their information to aaainfo@aaawm.org.

The OAA runs on a three year funding cycle. Every three years an open proposal process for OAA funding provides any incorporated entity the opportunity to submit a proposal to provide one or more of the defined fundable services.  If an agency is selected, their contract will remain in effect for 3 years though funding can vary from year to year.

AAAWM Accepting Hearing Services Proposals for 2016

AAAWM is accepting Proposals for Hearing Services for 2016 Kent County Senior Millage funds.  There is $85,000 that is available for Hearing Services, specifically in three service categories (Adaptive Equipment, Hearing Aid Assistance, and Specialized Hearing Services.)  Proposals are required for all new agencies, as well as for current millage funded agencies who wish to add a new service. The Proposal is due to AAAWM no later than 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2015. Click here to access the Proposal form or click here to access general infomration about the proposal..

There will be a Proposer Workshop to answer any questions about the Proposal on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the AAAWM conference room A at 3215 Eaglecrest Drive NE, Grand Rapids, MI. Questions can be submitted prior to the meeting to proposal@aaawm.org.  Questions will not be answered outside this meeting; however, answers to any submitted questions will be shared.  Please do not ask AAAWM Contract Coordinators any direct questions, as they are unable to respond to individual inquiries.

The Proposals will be reviewed by the Kent County Millage Review Committee (KCMRC) and the proposing organization will be required to give a short presentation to the KCMRC on January 8, 2016.  If funded, services are expected to start February 1, 2016.

HOW I WAS FREE FROM SHINGLES TOTALLY.
I have been suffering with pain caused from the shingles for six years now. Sometimes the pain is so bad bad I can't breath. My shingles started in the center of my back and came around my shoulder, across my left breast. I was driving a truck when they hit me I got to the doctor too late to do any good. Kent County Senior Millage Proposals Presentations

The Kent County Millage Review Committee (KCMRC) heard funding requests this week from all agencies requesting 2016 Kent County Senior Millage funding. Agencies presented Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and the committee will make their funding recommendations at the end of the week. These recommendations will then be presented to the Area Agency on Aging Executive Committee and the Kent County Board of Commissioners.

Providers Present Funding Requests

Older Americans Act providers are presenting their funding requests to the Proposal Review Committee Wednesday, June 10  and Thursday, June 11, 2015. The Proposal Review Committee (PRC)  will disperse more than $5 million in funding for FY 2016 (which starts October 1, 2015) throughout our nine county region. Providers meet with the PRC to present their funding requests, give additional details about services provided, and demonstrate the impact they are having in our community. The PRC is made up older adults from our Board of Directors and Advisory Council, representing all nine counties. These dedicated volunteers spend hours reviewing proposals from 28 organizations. Thank you both PRC members and providers for helping make our community a better place for seniors.

my sister is 67 years old is some what self suffinent . but still needs superivison. to help with meals and showers, not able to read Iam looking for a group home for her around this area kent county. having difficult finding one dont know how togo about finding one.

This proposal process is for three years, Fiscal Years 2014- 2016. The funding awarded will be for the first year of the three year proposal, Fiscal Year 2014 (October 1, 2013 through September 30, 2014).

  • April 24, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. - Proposal Workshop at the Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan, Conference Room, 1279 Cedar NE, Grand Rapids, MI  49503
  • May 13, 2013 12:00 p.m. (noon) - Proposals due at the AAAWM office, 3215 Eaglecrest Dr NE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49525. No proposals accepted after this date.
Please note that our agency will be moving on Monday, May 6th through Wednesday, May 8th.  It is not recommended to drop off proposals during this time.

Proposal Process Opens

Every three years an open proposal process takes place for Older Americans Act funding. During this time any incorporated entity has the opportunity to submit a proposal to provide one or more of the defined fundable services. If an agency is selected, their contract will remain in effect for three years, though funding amount may vary from year to year.

The proposal process will begin on April 8, 2013 with proposals due to the agency on May 13, 2013. Check back here for more information in April, such as proposal format.
