PUBLIC HEARING ANNOUNCEMENT
The Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan (AAAWM) is seeking comment on its Draft Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) for fiscal year 2019.
“The Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan values the feedback of those who reside in our nine county service region. We encourage the public to attend this hearing and share ideas, comments and ask questions,” says Lacey Charboneau, AAAWM Advocacy Coordinator and Planner.
Interested parties are invited to review and comment on the proposed plan at a public hearing, which will be conducted at the Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan’s office on:

As part of AAAWM’s Draft Annual Implementation Plan for fiscal year 2019, the agency will address healthy aging, access to dental care, person-centered planning, elder abuse prevention, creating innovative programs to reach older adults at all stages of aging, support for those caring for seniors, access to services for LGBT elders, and making our communities dementia friendly.
The Draft AIP will be available for review and/or download on the Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan website (www.aaawm.org) on May 18, 2018. Written comments will be accepted through June 13, 2018 by 5:00 pm. Individuals can submit comments online at www.aaawm.org, through the agency’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/AreaAgencyOnAging) by email (email@example.com) or by mailing their comments to 3215 Eaglecrest Drive NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525.

FY 2018 Draft Plan Now Available
The FY 2018 Draft Plan is now available. Comments are welcome and will be accepted through June 13, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. through multiple channels (listed below).
The plan (click here to download the plan) includes goals and objectives defining how federal Older Americans Act and state Older Michiganian Act funds will be spent to support home and community-based services for older adults in Allegan, Ionia, Kent, Lake, Mason, Montcalm, Mecosta, Newaygo and Osceola counties.
Seniors, family members caring for an older loved one, elected officials, advocates and other interested parties are invited to review and comment on the proposed plan by June 13, 2017 at 5:00 pm. Individuals may participate by:

The Area Plan will be considered by the AAAWM Advisory Council at their meeting on June 5, 2017. The AAAWM Executive Board will consider the recommendation(s) of the Advisory Council at their meeting on June 26, 2017, at which time they will make a recommendation regarding the Area Plan to the AAAWM Board of Directors. The AAAWM Board will consider the recommendations of both bodies and any public comments on the Area Plan at their meeting on June 26, 2017.

AAAWM to Exhibit at Healthy Living Lecture Series
AAAWM will have a booth at the Healthy Living Lecture Series May 25 from 12:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Forest Hills Fine Arts Center. The event will feature lectures by Mercy Health, keynote by Tom Rademacher, exhibitor booths (including AAAWM), screenings, snacks, and door prizes. Area Agencies on Aging Association Conference May 19- 20
The Area Agencies on Aging Association of Michigan is presenting their 29th Annual Conference in East Lansing, Michigan on May 19 and 20, 2016 at the Kellogg Hotel and Conferencing Center. This year’s conference theme will be “Creating the Future of Aging”.
The conference begins Thursday, May 19 at 8:00 a.m. with registration, exhibits, and a continental breakfast. The 9:00 a.m. keynote presentation “An Update from the Department of Health and Human Services” will be followed by workshops and a 12:30 luncheon presentation on “The Future of Aging”. The opening session on Friday morning will be “The View From DC” by policy expert and lobbyist Amy Gotwals, MLA.
